An eventful Deepavali

Over the Deepavali period, Cahaya and ITE set out to conduct an activity that would allow our kids to understand more about its rich history and traditions. In line with safe distancing measures, we organised word search competitions related to Deepavali, as well as Rangoli puzzles and art activities that got all our creative juices flowing. In case you guys are wondering what Rangoli is, it is coloured rice flour that is used to decorate the outside of homes! These patterns are usually very elaborate and colourful. Of course we did not use coloured rice flour to decorate the homes of residents cause…where got time to clean??? But we managed to replicate it on a much smaller scale using coloured sand to allow our kids and their families to experience what it would be like to create their own Rangoli art.

Boy were the Rangoli art pieces designed by the kids stunning! Maybe next Deepavali we could actually get them to do it outside their homes! All in all, we’re grateful for the support from ITE as well as our mentors, for without them we could not have had pulled this off.
